R.Story: Words and Music Meeting You Where You Are

R.Story, also known as Robyn Story, has been blessed with a life filled with music from the beginning. She has been singing since before she can remember, and trying to write music and lyrics since her childhood days with a cassette recording boom box and composition notebooks. Even so, it took her time to find her way into music. As she tried various new things and gained life experience, she took time to focus on raising her children with her husband, whose apt last name she decided to take. Delaying the determination of the right professional career path gave her time to become more sure of who she was as a person before she chose to step over the threshold of the music world. Music had been her comforting companion all along, and she began to want to create and share music to bring the same assurances to others.

A pivotal time for her was the COVID-19 pandemic. At home with her children, in a world of webcams, she realized that the opportunity to return to college was in front of her, if she was ready to enter. Starting fully online and progressing into in-person classes, she discovered her love of recording, producing, and audio programming during her time at Portland Community College. She earned her Associate of Applied Science in 2023 in Music and Sonic Arts. She continued her pursuit of music at Portland State University, where she is currently on pace to graduate with a Bachelor Degree in 2025. Her need for music has been satiated, in part, by singing in choirs, learning music history, studying composition, building connections with other musicians, and learning how to record and produce sound for visual media. She has also taken on the role of Production Director at KPSU, the student-led streaming radio station at the university, as well as being a DJ there, for her last two terms at PSU. While graduation is on the horizon, she is intent on continuing to learn and grow in music practices for the rest of her life.

When considering the impact she wants her productions and performances to have on the world, R.Story wishes to create music that conveys feelings that are relatable to others, so that it is comforting in everyday life. Being sad with the sad, joyous with the joyful, funny for lighthearted moments, or somber for serious ones, I want to connect with people where they are at and be helpful. Life can be hard. Life can also be wonderful. I understand this, and want to tell the stories of these moments. Thus my pseudonym. This is your story, and this is my story, so this is R.Story. Whether her penchant for puns and attempts to bring more love, joy, hope, honesty, and kindness into the world are working out well, the discerning audience will have to decide for themselves.
